What’s Up for 2012?
At the end of every year I get a hankering for cleaning out, reorganizing, and getting my priorities in order. If something isn’t adding to my life experience, I feel a great urge to eliminate it.
Over the past couple of days I’ve been cleaning out the closets and the kitchen cupboards. I’ve been taking stock of my yarn stash and my film supplies. And my art supplies.
Once the dust settles, I know better what I want to accomplish in the new year. It’s not really a New Year’s Resolution, but more like straightening my course, getting back on track, and being true to myself.

Here are a few things that have emerged so far:
- I’ve got a couple of encaustic ideas I want to pursue, including some three-dimensional work and more work with image transfers and old photographs.
- Knit down my yarn stash.
- Finish carding and spinning the Jacob fleece I bought last May. And spin some of the other fibers I have stockpiled.
- Shoot more film, and shoot more around the local area.
I’m also starting off 2012 with some fun and inspiring online art classes. I highly recommend the Strathmore Online Workshops. They’re playful and very creative and I’ve gotten lots of great ideas for using a variety of materials.
Be sure to check out Linda Womack’s online encaustic workshops at Womack Workshops if you’re interested in learning the art of painting with wax. I’m planning on doing Linda’s Encaustic Collage course next.
Look out 2012! It’s going to be a busy year!
